Despite wich Spanish authorities insist there is no major risk for the population. Protection for Volcanic Risk have decided closing two beaches on the island of El Hierro, owing to the fact that a technician from the country's National Geographic Institute which was studying the volcano had to seek medical treatment. The decision came in view of the posibility it might volcano be spewing toxic gases into the air.
A local explains also that have been seeing cats act strangely and eat dead fish.
