A big mistake

The weather team of BBC news made huge mistake when forecasting predictions a sunny day ignoring official weather predictions. The weatherman had to apologize for the errors on the bbc channel.
Many people thought it was being a beautiful day however the day was very rainy.
Finally the weatherman said that it wasn’t a computer fault. Although the computers predict the thunderstorms, they thought there weren’t enough evidences to say that.

I chose this story because it seems interesting and curious.

SO CLOSE, SO FAR

Pedro Alfonso Ocaña Fernández TAREA GRUPAL 1 IN2.

As here on Earth some are striving to simply survive, Curiosity lands on the Red Planet just to show that we are still too far from many other existences.

On August 6th this year, a sophisticated rover the size of a car will be sent to Mars.
NASA has several reasons to conform to this mission but the most ambitious one is to continue the hunt for extra-terrestrial life.

Surely many advances have been already made in this area. But uncertainties are still on the way. The arrival of America’s Viking landers on Mars, for instance, left even more evidence of an inhospitable place. Nevertheless, data from previous missions left scientists convinced that, in its past, Mars was much wetter than it is today. As water is thought to be vital for life, this is undoubtedly something important.

Returning to Curiosity, our sophisticated rover on Mars these days, we know that it carries high-tech instruments enough to analyse the chemical composition of rocks, to drill the surface and make a proper assessment on the existence of organic molecules that could have survived. If results become positive in that sense, surely it would be a great advance for the planetary science. If results in Mars turn to be nothing, there are other worlds to explore… as habitable worlds are not confined to the solar system. Moreover, there are indications that there is an immense amount of planets outside “our” world- exoplanets- that are still unexplored... Kepler space telescope (NASA July 28th) led us think this way. But of course there were other surveys of planets whose answers Kepler could not respond. And the real big question is… how do these exoplanets work? Should their reactions be like earthly ones? One tends to think like that… One tends to be subjective. But the Universe is still too wide and unknown for us. No matter how many space missions Americans or Europeans can launch…

Efforts on planetary science are always grateful. Technology from NASA’s Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF), or the European Space Agency’s Darwin has been making great progress on finding images that could provide some evidence over other planets existence. But the TPF or the Darwin project have been on hold since 2006. NASA’s budget is not enough today to foresee the future. These are really ambitious and pricey projects. “Crisis” is here anyway. I like Dr Boss gloomy literally words about it: “Hope springs eternal”.

I chose this story because I think we should support all the athletes who are struggling so much.
LONDON — For the entire 2,000 meters of the Olympic women’s eight final, the United States team had the best view of all.

The United States eight successfully defended its Olympic title by beating Canada as the 30,000-plus crowd in the stands lining the last 300 meters let out a deafening cheer. The Americas won by several seats, in 6 minutes 10.59 seconds. The Canadians finished in 6:12.06. The Dutch boat was third, in 6:13.12.
. At the 2004 Athens Games, under her guidance, the United States crew won a silver medal — the first medal for the United States eight in 20 years.
For Tom Terhaar, who has coached the United States women for the past dozen years, the victory was sweet relief.  At the crew’s last World Cup, that pressure grew, too. The United States beat Canada by just a whisker.

New discovery about the benefits of cannabis

Researchers have been discovered a new medicinal use of cannabis. Thanks to animal researches, researchers have discovered two compounds in cannabis that can be used to treat type 2 diabetes and reduce cholesterol and fat.
This treatment may help patients that suffer the “metabolic syndrome”, reducing the possibilities of suffering heart disease or stroke.
Dr. Steph Wright who is developing the drug said that animal tests has helped in the investigation and expects good results of the drug later this year.

I selected this article because I´m interested in the advances in medicine. Also, I thought it would be interesting an article that don´t deal with the grat problems of the world.

The European Commission gives another pull of ears to Spain.

The European Commission believes illegal the aid of $325 million from the regional government of Valencia for the construction of the studios in Ciudad de la Luz, and calls for Spain to return the money.

The vice president of Valencia’s current regional government said there is no money to give back.

The studios’ construction is an example of the massive and unnecessary construction of buildings, airports and other infrastructure for the housing bubble in Spain. And now all Spanish citizens must pay with hard cuts in health and education for these excesses and ambitions of the rulers who sought financial aid only perhaps to take advantage of it.

I chose this news because it explains well the present situation of our country and how it's seen in world.

Girl brides abducted as fabled HIV cure

In some villages of South Africa, girls as young as 12 years old are kidnapped by older man and forced to marry. In these zones, there is a myth that if a man sleep with a young, and virgin, girl, his HIV infection will be cured. Really, his HIV continues and infects to the young girl.

This villages are disconnected of the world, they don't know that to sell or to kidnap a young girl (twelve years old!) is illegal, and many people, parents (sellers) and older man, specially widowed by HIV (buyers), really think that they're doing is normal.

Lucky, the government of South Africa and some organizations are working for destroy this absurd myth and tradition, a tradition that steals the innocence from the girls.

I chose this notice because is necessary that we know the reality of other countries, and not always other cultures are defensibles.

Thirty- three years later

On Thursday a new Jersey man was arrested for the murder confession of Etan Patz in 1979 when this was 6 years.

The suspect, Pedro Hernandez, explained to investigators that he lured Etan to the basement of a bodega where he choked him.

And it was not clear Thursday what evidence beyond the confession of Mr. Hernandez, prosecutors have in hand. Recognize that there is no physical evidence involving Mr. Hernandez, but investigation was continuing

The reason I chose this notice is because it is a current event that has drawn worldwide attention.

THE QUEEN PREPARES TO CELEBRATE HER DIAMOND JUBILEE

THE ROYAL FAMILY IS GETTING POPULARITY IN THE CELEBRATIÓN OF HER DIAMOND JUBILEE

For example, in Scotland there is a 36% who think the country would be better without the monarchy. In general the peoble think that in a dificult economic moment as we are living. The doctor who helped the location Osama Bin Ladem is jailed

Shakil Afridi, the pakistani doctor who was accused of helping the CIA to find Osama Bin Laden, was sentenced Wednesday to 33 years in prision for treason to his country.
The doctor launched a vaccination campaign of false DNA to track the terrorist leader and his family in the locality where an elite U. S. ended his life in early May 2011.
Washington official expected the Asian country, which receives billions of dollars in U.S. aid, stop releasing Afridi. His arrest came after the operation.
Predictably, his imprisonment irritate the U.S. ally in a time when negotiations to reopen supply routes into Afghanistan for NATO troops.
Last January, the U.S. defense secretary, Leon Panetta said on television that the doctor and his team had been crucial to find the then leader of Al Qaeda and was convinced that there was no treason or prejudice to Pakistan.

I choose this new, because I think it is unjust condemnation from Pakistan to Dr. who allegedly helped the United States to seek and capture the terrorist Osama Bin Laden.

An exoplanet newly disclosed can convert in powder

Exoplaneta

The researcher of MIT and other centers have detected a possible planet, to approximately 1500 years - lights, of the land  that one seems to be evaporating under the scorching heat of his star progenitora. it is following to the planet, and that this tail can count the history of the disintegration of the planet.According to the calculations of the equipment, the tiny exoplaneta, it isn´t higher that Mercury, the exoplanet will disintegrate completely in 100 million years.  The researcher suppose that the rocky material of the surface of the planet fuses and the rocky material evaporates to this so high temperatures, it´s forming a wind that transports gas and powder to the space. Dense clouds of powder continue to the planet while the planet  turns about his star.

The motive for that I have chosen  this new is because it seems to me to be interesting enough.

The deficit reduccióm the speech of the Queen of England

Deficit reduction, reform of the House of Lords and the division of banking are among thepriorities of the British Government, presented today by Queen Elizabeth II in a solemnceremony in Parliament.The 86-year sovereign, wearing crown and ermine cloak as usual, began his speech by noting that the priority of the coalition government between Conservatives and Liberal Democrats is to reduce the deficit. The goal is to make that eighty percent of the members of this chamber are electedthrough a proportional system and not as before.
In addition, the text revealed today by the Queen is a draft that will force banks to separate their investment banking business and trade, to protect customer deposits in bankruptcy for riskier operations. In this way, it will be easier to close banks that are in trouble.Another project is the reform of the retirement age will be increased from 65 to 67 years old by 2028.http://www.lavozdegalicia.es/noticia/internacional/2012/05/09/reduccion-deficit-reforma-lores-discurso-reina-inglaterra/00031336563014958314903.htm

Anti-gay adverts blocked on London buses

An anti-gay advert was going to be published in the London buses next week.

Advertising was hired by conservative Anglican groups and supported by Christian groups. The advert should to say: "Not gay! Ex-gay, post gay and proud. Get over it!" and it promised to change the sexual orientation of homosexuals.

This advertisement has been withdrawn before being published by the Mayor of London for these reasons:

· The ads promise something impossible; to cure homosexuality.

· Those responsible for the ads comparing homosexuality to alcoholism.

· The advertisements could harm to adolescents who are trying to find their sexuality.

· Politicians and gay activists think that the ads are homophobic.

· The mayor of London says that London is a tolerant city and this advert changes the image of the city.

The media company that sells the bus advertising sites doesn’t agree with the withdrawal of the campaign because the advertising doesn’t breach any London law.

Also some people think that the ads are homophobic but they shouldn’t be banned because they believe freedom of expression.

*****************************************************************

I chose this new because I am against homophobia. I agree with the mayor of London. He has withdrawn advertising because it said that homosexuality is curable but alone can cure the diseases and being gay or lesbian is not a disease.

I have a gay family and friends and I love them by what they are, not by "with whom they go to bed."
