The U.S. team celebrated its gold medal by giving cox Mary Whipple a douse.

I chose this story because I think we should support all the athletes who are struggling so much.
LONDON — For the entire 2,000 meters of the Olympic women’s eight final, the United States team had the best view of all.

The United States eight successfully defended its Olympic title by beating Canada as the 30,000-plus crowd in the stands lining the last 300 meters let out a deafening cheer. The Americas won by several seats, in 6 minutes 10.59 seconds. The Canadians finished in 6:12.06. The Dutch boat was third, in 6:13.12.
. At the 2004 Athens Games, under her guidance, the United States crew won a silver medal — the first medal for the United States eight in 20 years.
For Tom Terhaar, who has coached the United States women for the past dozen years, the victory was sweet relief.  At the crew’s last World Cup, that pressure grew, too. The United States beat Canada by just a whisker.
